Ushering in a Brave New World

After I finished writing The Shadow Runners for Love Spell’s 2176 series, I knew I wanted to continue writing action romance.

People often ask me how I can write in two very different genres: light, sassy, contemporary comedies and dark, angsty, kick-butt paranormals. For me, what it boils down to is that I like writing about girls who do the things that only boys normally get to do, whether it’s a yuppie working in Antarctica, a pair of sorority girls taking on the World Series of Poker or, as in The Shadow Runners, the women literally strapping on the ammo, pulling off the safeties, and kicking as much ass as the men in their lives.

Fellow author Susan Grant had conceived of and organized 2176, and I, in turn, was inspired to create my own series. I decided on an idea that would represent everything I wanted to read…and couldn't find on the shelves. That idea came to be CRIMSON CITY.

The CRIMSON CITY series possesses a little bit of everything—action, romance and a new reality. In short, it’s an adrenaline rush, something that’s different, original and edgy. It’s what I wanted to read…and it’s what I wanted to write.

Fortunately, four other fantastic writers—Marjorie M. Liu, Patti O’Shea, Carolyn Jewel, and Jade Lee—were excited to join me in bringing this vision to life. These authors aren’t afraid to write something different, push things a little farther and give readers the kind of no-holds-barred story-telling that you find in Blade Runner, La Femme Nikita, Underworld, and Terminator.

Think of CRIMSON CITY as the battle of the species in futuristic L.A. You've got the glamour and excess of the vampires, the gritty ingenuity of the werewolves, the raw resolve of the humans, the supernatural pull of the demons, and the true heart of the mechs buried under a layer of steel.
